The Jain Epic - Kalpa Sutra - relates a tender and magnificently great soul’s journey towards the Truth and by that to the emancipation of Mankind.
This heart-rending story with high human drama, originally drawn in Gujarati style of Western India, is reverentially reproduced for the connoisseur’s collection.
This painting recaptures the story of Ahimsa and cruelty to none. Neminath, in his bridegroom’s robes, alongwith Balaram and Shamkumar leads the marriage procession. As the pomp and pageantry unwinds itself, Neminath notices a herd of goats and deer, tied up for killing for the wedding feasts. And, the meat to be served to the bridal party in their honour. Neminath is pained at such cruelty and forth with renounces meat eating. A great moral outstandingly told in a great story. The gold, blue, red and green combination leads the mind towards softer and higher planes of thinking-Vegetarianism as a cult and religious principle. This miniature is an apt artistic salute to Sri Neminath and his great principle.
Reproduced from the 15th century Jain Manuscript, this painting by a great soul and sensitive artist, is a befitting tribute to Neminath - who renounced this colourful world and became a Jain Sanyasi.
